In the depths of our being hides a mystery that has been moving people since ages. The Odyssey describes the mysterious quest for this secret. Homer created the archetype of Odysseus over 2800 years ago, which was founded in the search for the depth of his nature, down many wrong paths before he could find himself arriving where he left: home. On this voyage, driven by an inner call, the hero encounters dangers, trials, gods, enemies, helpers and transgresses numerous borders.
The American anthropologist Joseph Campbel described this archetypal journey of Ulysses as a mythical Hero’s journey, that we all have within us potentially. Almost all Hollywood movies are based on this scheme of this hero’s journey, from Pretty Woman over Star-Wars to The Matrix. The starting point is always the boring everyday reality, a state of stagnation, sometimes accompanied by years of waiting for the departure into a new world, reality. Without intuition, without the inner voice, this journey does not happen. Most remain in the standardized, one-dimensional, superficial structure of life. They had to fully comply early and with the family and social norms of mass consciousness.
True individuality, authentic self and with it, intuition, have not been able to unfold. The pressure to adapt and expectations where too high or the traumatization was too severe. The accompanying fear of falling out of line, sometimes prevents actual self-determination, often up to the point, where the false self collapses.
For most people, it is like waking up from a trance. One stands naked on the stage of life, has no success story to report, but now breathes one’s own air, maybe feeling the soul again for a long time. Real transformation only takes place here, at this level of being.
If you dare to go deeper, to look for the authentic centre, befriend yourself by meditation with silence, and observe the inner software more precisely under the magnifying glass, you will find old, unhealed wounds, negative self-images, inner critics, saboteurs and above all, chaos.
The most effective intervention in this phase consists of creating distance to the thoughts, and deeply relax In the depths of our being. The most effective intervention in this phase consists of creating a distance to the thoughts and deep relaxation of the body. This works best if you give up wanting completely, also wanting to relax. Alleviation of tension is, like meditation and intuition, a spontaneous phenomenon.
It tunes in, when you just watch and do nothing at all. At this point, many get caught up in self-optimization strategies. Attention!
The authentic self is not something that you develop, but something you already are! What you are in essence, can only become spontaneous manifest.
A lot of people are breaking off at this point, either making a big circle around the neuroses that have accumulated in the course of a biography or find it just too boring to sit still and do nothing.
Those who overcome these initial resistances with patience, those who manage to survive to anchor more and more on the meta-level of the inner observer, will gain distance to their own patterns, beliefs and programs and, above all, humor with regard to oneself. One is often rewarded.
The engine of intuition starts up again. The fine, soft voice of the authentic self is now audible again. The real hero’s journey can be start now. One follows the inner call, hesitantly with many doubts and then more and more confident. The inner compass is recalibrated again and again.
Sometimes one loses oneself in conventional dead ends, trusts the wrong people, the wrong decisions are made. But all these aberrations are part of the hero’s journey.
You fall down, take care of your wounds, wipe your tears and get back up. The inner compass becomes clearer and clearer over time. Gradually the fog clears up and the path on which you walk feels right, really good.
It’s your own intuitive way that leads home. As time goes by, one realizes that this intuitive intelligence posses an efficient support system, which is designed to minimize efforts and increase the lightness of being.
It is available to us in all areas of life. The more we put this intuitive intelligence to power, the more meaning, fulfillment and serenity we will find.
The hunt is over. One has arrived, like Ulysses, in the house of one’s own soul.
